Position Description:

The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus invites applications for four (4) full-time contractually limited College Professors. Nine-month appointments are currently available in the Agriculture, Environmental Management and Veterinary Technology Associate Diploma programs (University of Guelph Faculty Association (UGFA) Unit 2). These positions are based at the Ridgetown Campus of the University of Guelph, located in Ridgetown Ontario.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Quality and Student Success, the College Professors will be responsible for teaching students in the Agriculture (2 positions), Environmental Management (1 position) or Veterinary Technology (1 position) Diploma programs. Successful candidates will be experienced professionals in the agriculture (soils, mechanization), environmental (water) or veterinary fields with a passion for teaching and supporting student development and success.

The College Professors will be expected to teach a variety of courses to assist students with developing proficiency in the related field. The specific agriculture courses may include soil principles, environmental stewardship, soil and water conservation and agricultural chemicals in the environment. The additional agriculture position may include courses in agricultural mechanization and safety, machinery maintenance and precision agriculture. The specific environmental management courses may include water, sewage and wastewater treatment, water distribution and wastewater collection, math and water chemistry and drinking water operations. The specific veterinary technology courses may include microbiology, cytology and hematology, clinical and medical exercises. Other courses may be assigned as required.

The incumbents will be responsible for the development, preparation and delivery of appropriate course materials, evaluation of student progress and individual academic consultations with students. In addition, the College Professors will be involved in student recruitment/promotion, curricular and program development, and other pedagogical activities.

Requirements for the College Professor role include a Baccalaureate or Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum of three years of work experience in the agriculture or environmental industries. Applicants for Veterinary Technology must be Registered Veterinary Technicians. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and industry experience may be considered. The successful candidate will have experience teaching at the post-secondary level, excellent oral and written communication skills, advanced proficiency with MS Office and internet applications, as well as a record of diplomacy and excellent teamwork. Ability to work in the field and lab environment is also a requirement.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
