General Information

The Molecular and Cellular Imaging Facility is part of the University of Guelph Advanced Analysis Centre (AAC), which provides access (direct or indirect) to highly specialized, state-of-the-art equipment.  NMR, Mass Spectrometry, Genomics, and Phytotron are the other facilites within the AAC.

The Advanced Light Microscopy Unit provides microscopy services for internal and external users.  Specifically, the facility houses two confocal microscope systems: a Laser Scanning Microscope (Leica TCS SP5) and a Spinning Disk Microscope (Quorum Diskovery) with Super-resolution capability.  Additionally, two advanced light microscopes are available for high resolution and/or high speed and deconvolution imaging (Nikon Eclipse Ti2, Leica DM 5000B). The Eclipse Ti2 is also equipped with a TIRF imaging module. Further available instruments are the Zeiss Axiozoom V.16 macroscope, the Agilent Cytation C10 confocal plate imager, and the Sony SH800Z Cell Sorter.

The Electron Microscopy (EM) unit (formerly the Guelph Regional Integrated Imaging Facility [GRIIF]) is open on a cost recovery basis to both Canadian and foreign researchers.  The EM Unit consists of two electron microscopes (TEMs), an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) and an array of ancillary preparatory equipment.  Each of the TEMs fills a unique niche in the facility; specific details on each of these instruments are provided below.
