About the CIO

About Rob Howe, CIO

Rob Howe's term as CIO began on January 5, 2026, joining U of G from Cambridge Memorial Hospital where he was their chief information officer and director of corporate solutions. During his time there he led digital transformation across a diverse and comprehensive portfolio including information technology, system modernization, bio-medical engineering, facilities, environmental and dietary services.  

A Wilfrid Laurier University alumnus, Rob has his MBA along with honour degrees in both computing and business.  

“Throughout my roles across organizations, I have overseen the implementation of cutting-edge technology solutions aimed at streamlining operations, and ensuring technology meets the needs of the users,” Rob said. “I see many parallels between healthcare and post-secondary education, and I am excited to build upon the fantastic work that has already been in place to support the University’s IT goals.” 

Through Rob’s leadership, the CCS team will continue to source and design modern solutions to support our staff, faculty, and students while bringing innovative strategies aligned to the University’s overall strategic plan.  

About the Office of the CIO

The Office of the CIO oversees the strategic and policy administration of the University’s information technology, services and resources. This includes information security, network access and infrastructure, enterprise applications and client support. The CIO provides vision, leadership and advocacy for a secure, reliable and innovative IT environment enabling excellence in teaching, learning and research. The CIO reports to the Vice-President (Finance & Operations).
