Position Description:

The Department of Management, Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics at the University of Guelph invites applications from Indigenous scholars for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates will hold, or will have nearly completed, a Ph.D. in Management or related fields and have experience in Indigenous business and leadership.

The Department of Management is working to enhance its programs, bring them to the next level of impact and relevance, and expand its engagement with diverse perspectives in business, management and leadership. The colleague in this position will contribute to the design and delivery of introductory and advanced Indigenous business and general management courses. They will also contribute to the school’s long-standing commitment to community and engagement by fostering relationships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis nations, communities and organizations, external partners and faculty, staff and students.

The colleague is expected to contribute to the further development of professionally oriented courses in our undergraduate programs, for the recently approved MSc Management, and for our professional and executive programs. The candidate may also contribute to programs in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) the Department is considering. The interdisciplinary nature of the department provides an opportunity for cross-disciplinary work in a wide variety of areas including innovation management, accounting, organizational effectiveness, leadership, entrepreneurship and project management, and examination of the complex interplay between organizational phenomena and the broader social and political context. The successful candidate’s research and teaching will contribute to emergent dialogues at the intersections of business, environmental, social justice, reconciliation and decolonization aligning with the University of Guelph’s mandate to Improve Life.

The Lang School of Business and Economics is open to researchers working with knowledge and ways of knowing that exceed or challenge Eurocentric knowledge paradigms. The school aims to enhance its research impacts through innovative research that utilizes a diversity of methodologies, practices, and forms of knowledge translation and mobilization.

This tenure-track faculty position is part of the University of Guelph’s Black and Indigenous Hiring Initiative. Launched in June 2022, the Black and Indigenous Hiring Initiative (BIHI) calls for hiring fifteen or more Black and Indigenous faculty and four or more Black and Indigenous professional staff across the University of Guelph during the next three years. The faculty and staff positions will be filled in areas that support the advancement of Black and Indigenous academic excellence and the University of Guelph’s commitments to inclusion, anti-racism, indigenization and decolonization.

The University of Guelph seeks qualified individuals who identify as Indigenous (First Nation, Inuit, Métis, Native American, Alaskan Native, or Native Hawaiian). Applicants will be asked to self-identify through the Applicant Tracking Questionnaire (ATQ) facilitated by Diversity and Human Rights. Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous on the ATQ will be asked to confirm their Indigenous citizenship/membership and/or ancestral and kinship connections to a recognized and inherent Indigenous nation, community, treaty, land claim, territory or region through a confidential follow-up process facilitated by Indigenous Initiatives.

The Department of Management is an integral part of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics. Formed in 2006, the Lang School is the youngest college at the University of Guelph, but delivers one of the largest undergraduate business programs in Ontario with over 3,800 students currently enrolled. Our School provides a learning environment that encourages critical reflection, personal growth, and promotes traditional and emerging themes of management and economics. We offer a wide range of specialized programs in business and economics across undergraduate, graduate, and professional education.

Salary for this position depends on qualifications and experience in accordance with the Collective agreement terms.
