U of G ranks among top research universities in Canada

The University of Guelph has maintained its position as a leading Canadian research institution, securing the second spot among comprehensive universities for the ninth consecutive year in the 2023 Research Infosource Inc. ranking of Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities

The University claimed the 18th position overall based on factors like total sponsored research income and research impact. 

This year, U of G secured the top spot in both graduate student research intensity ($52,100 per student) and faculty research intensity ($194,200 per faculty member) in the comprehensive university category.  

With a total sponsored research income of $163.5 million, the university ranked second among comprehensive schools for overall research funding, encompassing grants, contributions, and contracts. 

U of G also claimed the second position in private sector research income, attracting over $113.5 million from industry partners, while not-for-profit research income experienced a remarkable 460 per cent growth from 2018 to 2022. 

“The University’s consistently high standing in these rankings is a testament to our dedication to creating a diverse institution where innovation and discovery thrive,” said Dr. Rene Van Acker, interim vice-president (research).
