The University of Guelph has been awarded a $16.3 million Lab to Market grant over five years to support Sustainable Food Systems for Canada (SF4C), a national platform designed to transform lab-based agri-food innovations into commercialized technologies.

SF4C, co-chaired by Dr. Evan Fraser (U of G) and Dr. Lenore Newman (University of the Fraser Valley), will bring together experts from agriculture, veterinary medicine, Indigenous organizations, and startups to create one of the world’s largest agri-food innovation training networks.

The initiative will develop three main programs:

  • A national training platform for entrepreneurial and innovation skills

  • A mentorship and concierge service connecting innovators with additional resources

  • A suite of workshops, events, and activities to unify expertise across Canada and reduce barriers to commercialization

Thirteen post-secondary institutions and numerous national partners are collaborating on SF4C, which is funded jointly by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, NSERC, and SSHRC.
