Soybean on a commercial dairy farm with a greenhouse gas sampler system in the background. This sampler system collects carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide emissions and sends them to a gas analyzer to monitor emissions quasi-continuously and year-round.
My research has been monitoring greenhouse gas emissions at a commercial dairy farm in Fergus since 2024. This study aims to evaluate the impacts of beneficial management practices (BMP) packages co-developed by researchers and farmers for nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide emissions mitigation while promoting crop yield. This research is part of a Living Lab – Ontario (LL-ON) project, which brings together farmers, scientists, and other stakeholders to co-develop, test, and evaluate BMPs in real-world farm settings and integrate them into agricultural systems.
