Salamander Haven

Ferns, like this Ostrich fern, are excellent habitat for endangered Jefferson salamanders. Jefferson salamanders are mole salamanders who spend most of their life underground. Part of my research was radio-tracking these salamanders to their breeding pond, and we found many of them curled up the root clusters of these beautiful ferns.
