This research project investigates the implications of feeding strategies and exercising in overweight horses. During the period this photo was taken, the horses were eating hay out of large feeders, which would lead to an accumulation of hay around the feeders. The mare shown in this photo was the leader of the herd, so she would always have prime access to this desired resting spot.
