Plant Sale

Our plant sale is on Saturday, September 8, 2018
and is part of our first ever Arboretum Expo: Meet the Trees!

plant sale

The annual Arboretum Plant Sale has been run by a group of dedicated Volunteer Auxiliary members since 1995. Word spread quickly about the quality of the sale, and in 2006 over 1,000 people came from far and wide to buy the more than 6,000 woody and herbaceous plants offered for sale. Proceeds from the sales have been used to upgrade Arboretum nursery facilities (streamlining of plant production; refurbishing of the Lathe House and the Shade House; purchase of a polyhouse), to build up The Arboretum's Endowment fund, and to help fund the Italian Garden.

Originally, all plants were donated by volunteers and other interested individuals. It soon became apparent, however, that this was unable to produce the number of plants needed. Seed sources have now expanded in many interesting directions to meet the increased demand, such as seed exchanges with organizations from around the world, wild seed collected in an ecologically responsible manner, surplus material from The Arboretum's own nursery, and seed collected by volunteers from their gardens. Of course, plant donations are still accepted!

The Plant Sale group welcomes new members throughout the year. If interested, please speak to Barb, our Volunteer Co-ordinator, at the sale, send her an e-mail bash@uoguelph.ca  or call her at 519-824-4120 x52358.

2018 Arboretum Expo; Meet the Trees Event (including the Plant Sale)

Join us Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Arboretum Centre for our inaugural Arboretum Expo. Attendees will have the opportunity to "Meet the Trees" while taking part in tours, demonstrations, research exhibits, full-family activities, live music and plant sale. Come connect with Arboretum staff and volunteers to learn about trees you won't find anywhere else in Canada, and learn more about our efforts to conserve endangered species and restore natural habitats.

The Arboretum Expo also marks the return of our hugely popular Arboretum Auxiliary Plant Sale, in our new location and with a renewed focus on only the most unique and rare plants produced in our Arboretum Nursery. Quantities will be limited and selections will include plants not found anywhere else, so please be sure to mark your calendar for this one-of-a-kind event. A full listing of plants available will be posted on our website by July 31, 2018.
