CCS would like to congratulate our very own Garrett May – a dedicated Services Support Consultant – for his outstanding volunteer contributions to the United Way, which were recently recognized when he received the Gabrielle Hubert Award.

This award is the most prestigious individual award given by the University for United Way efforts. This award is given to an individual who is dedicated to the campaign, enthusiastically promotes United Way in their department, puts in tremendous work organizing events and raising awareness, makes extra efforts to personally engage co-workers, and achieves an increase in participation via pledge cards.

Garrett has been a CCS leader for the U of G United Way campaign for the past three years – acting as Chair/Co-Chair for CCS and also supporting the larger University campaign. This year, he was instrumental in the creation of the highly successful "A Time to be Grapeful," a gala which included Ontario wine tasting and food pairing in support of the United Way. Success of this event has led to plans for a repeat event as part of the 2019 campaign.

Garrett has taken his United Way role very seriously. “The journey we take together is a cumulative effort around campus to celebrate the relationship between the University of Guelph and the United Way,” says May. “We honour this diverse partnership by making our goals a reality, through our support, time, effort, and by pledging ourselves to the greater good in our community.”

May was very touched and humbled by the award. “This is truly a tremendous distinction, and this award reiterates the University of Guelph’s continuing commitment to Improve Life in our own community,” says May. “My contribution is only a single voice in the choir, and there are others more deserving of this award. This privilege is theirs as much as it is mine.”
