eCampusOntario, part of the Ontario Government, signed an agreement with LinkedIn.com on behalf of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development to provide all students, faculty and staff from Ontario institutions with access to the full suite of Lynda.com material for a three-year pilot. The pilot began in the Spring of 2017 and will continue until September 2020. The University of Guelph is a grateful recipient of this initiative.

Lynda.com is a video-based training library where users can access online learning modules to build specific skills and achieve personal and professional goals. Taught by industry professionals, modules are delivered in five languages and topics range from software development, website design, animation, audio and music, soft-skill training, photography, and more. Lynda.com was bought by LinkedIn in May 2015.

All U of G students, staff and faculty can access Lynda.com from anywhere, you just need an internet connection and your U of G credentials.

To access Lynda.com for the first time, see our First Time Login Instructions. For subsequent logins, you can go directly to Lynda.com or click the "Log In to Lynda.com" button above.

There may be instances where you take a course on Lynda.com to build skills required for your current, or potentially future, position at U of G. Staff require explicit approval from their manager to take any courses during work time.

If you are a U of G instructor and have the appropriate level of access, you can link to specific Lynda.com content using the CourseLink Content Tool. Lynda.com content should be used as a supplemental resource only. For help integrating Lynda.com content with CourseLink, visit Courselink Lynda.com help at http://spaces.uoguelph.ca/ed/lynda/ or contact Courselink Support at courselink@uoguelph.ca or via phone at 519-824-4120 ext. 56939.

This is still to be determined and more information will follow closer to that time. However, it is a good idea to save all of your Certificates of Completion to ensure you have a record of the courses you have taken. Here is a short video from Lynda.com about the different ways to save your Certificates of Completion https://www.lynda.com/NA-tutorials/Sharing-printing-certificates-completion/77683/598529-4.html

No. All U of G students, staff and faculty can access Lynda.com from anywhere, you just need an internet connection and your U of G credentials.

When a course is completed, a personalized Certificate of Completion is automatically generated for you to view or print. You have the option to share to your LinkedIn profile, but this is not required. However, adding your Certificates to your LinkedIn profile, or saving a copy elsewhere (on social media, via PDF, etc.) is a good idea, as students, staff and faculty may lose access to their U of G Lynda.com account upon leaving U of G.

To view your Certificates of Completion:

1. Log in to your Lynda.com account.

2. Click Hi, Your Name in the top right of any Lynda.com page.

3. Click Certificates.

4. Click view/print next to the certificate you wish to view or print.

Saving your Lynda.com Certificates is a good idea, as students, staff and faculty may lose access to their U of G Lynda.com account upon leaving U of G. Here is a short video from Lynda.com about the different ways to save them https://www.lynda.com/NA-tutorials/Sharing-printing-certificates-completion/77683/598529-4.html

You can save your Certificates in many ways - via LinkedIn, social media, or downloading a PDF to save to your personal files. Reminder that you will no longer have access to your U of G Lynda.com account upon graduation/leaving the University, so saving your Certificates of Completion is important. Here is a short video from Lynda.com about the different ways to save them https://www.lynda.com/NA-tutorials/Sharing-printing-certificates-completion/77683/598529-4.html

If you currently have a Lynda.com account, you have the option of merging your existing personal account with your new U of G Lynda.com account. However, please consider that upon graduation/leaving the University, you will lose access to your U of G Lynda.com account, and will not be able to merge it with a new personal account. Your options are as follows:

  • Merge your current personal account with your new U of G account, and then as you complete courses, save all your Certificates of Completion (via LinkedIn, PDF, etc.) to ensure you will have those upon graduation/leaving the University. Instructions for merging accounts are below and included in the First Time Login Instructions.
  • Do not merge your current personal account with your new U of G account. In this case, you would likely want to close your personal account, making sure to save all of your existing Certificates of Completion (via LinkedIn, PDF, etc). You can then use the free U of G Lynda.com account during your time at U of G. Upon graduation/leaving the University, you will want to complete any unfinished courses, and save all your Certificates of Completion.
  • Keep your personal account and do not utilize the free U of G Lynda.com account.

Here is a short video from Lynda.com about the different ways to save your Certificates of Completion https://www.lynda.com/NA-tutorials/Sharing-printing-certificates-completion/77683/598529-4.html

Please see the question "Should I merge my existing Lynda.com account with my new U of G account?" above to understand the implications of merging your accounts. During the registration process (outlined in our First Time Login Instructions) you will see the prompt, “Do you have an existing Lynda.com account?" If you do have an existing Lynda.com account and want to merge your previous course history with your new U of G account, you can ONLY do this when you first register. In this case, you should select "Yes". You will then be prompted to enter your login credentials for your previous (non-U of G) subscription. When the correct login information is entered, you should be able to merge and carry your history successfully. There is an exception to this: if your previous (non-U of G) account was related to another organization, you will not be able to merge your files. Lynda.com may be able to provide support for this https://www.linkedin.com/help/lynda/lynda-consent

If you are a student and you graduate from U of G, or you are staff/faculty and you leave U of G, you will lose your U of G Lynda.com account. You will not be able to merge your U of G account with a new personal account. The best thing to do upon graduation/leaving the University is to complete any unfinished courses, and save all your Certificates of Completion. That way you will have a record of all courses you have successfully completed. For information on how to save your Certificates, visit https://www.lynda.com/NA-tutorials/Sharing-printing-certificates-completion/77683/598529-4.html
