Title: Resource Driven Dispersal Models with Harvesting
Abstract:
Within the field of ecology, understanding the relationship between a population and its environment is crucial for effective population management. Over the last few years, there has been significant interest in partial differential equation models with dispersal that can be influenced by environmental or resource patterns. However, much of the research done has been theoretical, with little explanation of how the model connects to real world data in ecology.
In this talk we will discuss how models with resource driven dispersal are derived, and how real world data from the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) can be incorporated via habitat suitability maps. We will then investigate how movement that is biased by these resource maps can influence competition outcomes between species. Finally we will incorporate a harvesting deduction into the model, and explore the impact of this deduction and its relationship with the biased dispersal patterns.
