Academic Calendars

Posted on Thursday, May 13th, 2021

The SIS Refresh team is excited to announce that the academic calendars are now on a new platform. Through collaboration across campuses and numerous departments over the past two years, the calendars have a whole new look with improved functionality for all users.

What has changed?

  • The modern design is simple to navigate and mobile-friendly, and it blends seamlessly with other University of Guelph and Guelph-Humber websites.

  • The calendars now integrate data from Colleague, allowing for a single data source and more accessible updates. The team is grateful to the staff who worked tirelessly on cleaning the data in Colleague in preparation for publication.

  • A new, robust course search engine tool allows users to search for courses by subject area, class/program level and location.

  • The layout of program pages is slightly different and makes better use of web navigation tools.

  • Faculty and administration pages have been updated to reflect current best practices.

  • Listings of awards are no longer included in the calendars as they are available on these websites: Undergraduate awards, Graduate awards, Guelph-Humber awards and Associate Diploma awards. General information about awards remains in the calendars and on the units’ respective websites.

  • The Summary of Attendance chapter has been removed from the Undergraduate and Guelph-Humber calendars. This information is available through Institutional Research and Planning.

  • All calendars will now be published annually on the same day. Periodic updates will be made throughout the academic year, as appropriate.

What comes next?

The design of the new calendars – and the content provided within them – will continue to evolve. The SIS Refresh team is looking for feedback on how to improve the calendars. We will be establishing focus groups during the upcoming year to discuss additional functionality, layout and program/specialization displays. You can also submit feedback anytime through our contact form.

The launch of the new calendar platform is just the first phase of the University’s partnership with Leepfrog Technologies. The Curriculum Management project is now underway and will improve the workflows associated with updating course descriptions, creating courses and developing new programs. The team will also begin implementing Leepfrog’s course outline tool later this year.
