Established in honour of Dr. Pari Basrur, who was a Professor Emeritus of the Department of Biomedical Sciences from 1995 - 2012. Dr. Basrur was also the first woman to be appointed full Professor at a Canadian veterinary college in 1967. Dr. Basrur maintained a vibrant, internationally acclaimed research program in medical genetics for over 50 years, and was a popular teacher and recipient of numerous awards, including the Order of Canada, for her work both at the University of Guelph and Internationally. She was a positive role model for women in science and students in general throughout her career. This award was established to honour her illustrious career and Dr. Basrur’s extraordinary contribution to the community of scientists. Selection is based on the highest average of the student’s research paper grade and seminar grade of BIOM*4510. In the event of a tie, highest final grade in course.

Students graduating or who have convocated in the previous 2 semesters in the Biomedical Science Major, enrolled in Research in Biomedical Sciences (BIOM*4510) and achieved a minimum 90% grade in the course.
