Established in 2021 by Nadia Jacyk to honour the memory of her mother, Dr. Yvonne Balysky, on the centenary year of Yvonne’s birth. Yvonne was a survivor in the truest sense of the word. She was orphaned by the age of two yet against all odds became a veterinarian in Ukraine in the early 1940s. She immigrated to Canada in 1949 without money, language, family or friends and flourished in her training at the OVC. In 1967, Yvonne received her certificate from the CVMA after which she practiced in the public sector until she retired. Definitely a woman before her time! Apply in the call for convocation awards to the office of the Associate Dean, Students and Academic, Ontario Veterinary College, with a curriculum vitae and a one-page statement describing how the applicant has demonstrated leadership and ambition as evidenced by extracurricular, volunteer and work experience on campus and/or in the community, evolution of leadership positions held, and demonstrated positive impact on the OVC and/or greater veterinary community. Selection will be based on greatest demonstrated leadership and ambition as evidenced by extracurricular, volunteer and work experience on campus and/or in the community, evolution of leadership positions held, and demonstrated positive impact on the OVC and/or greater veterinary community.

Students who have successfully completed Phase 4 of the DVM program at the time of award review and who have demonstrated leadership and ambition in volunteer and work experience on campus and/or in the community.
