The Governor General's Academic Medal program provides for one recipient of a gold medal to be selected by the University of Guelph for outstanding academic achievement at the graduate level of study each year. Upon the request of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in early April, each College will nominate one student to the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Awards Committee. The nomination package should include the following: a summary letter from the College; a two-page summary of biographical information on the candidate to include basic information, the academic record, scholarly/research activities, and teaching experience; and two letters of reference. The decision of the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Awards Committee will be based entirely on this information. No application is required.

All students who graduate from a full-time graduate degree in the previous June, October and February convocations will be considered by their college or university school awards committee for nomination.
