Black Canadians have long faced systemic barriers in their attempts to consistently access high quality graduate training, particularly in STEM fields. The Department of Biomedical Sciences has implemented the Black Canadian Graduate Research Scholarship specifically directed at recruiting outstanding Black students to our graduate program. Students should apply in the fall as part of the OVC Graduate Awards competition to the OVC Graduate Awards Committee with a letter detailing community service and a statement identifying oneself as Black, include a letter of support from a supervisor in a community service role, and the completed survey. Applicant with the highest combination of academic aptitude (as per graduate entry criteria in Biomedical Sciences), community service, and research potential will be selected. In the case of equally qualified candidates, the student with the higher average in their previous two years of graduate or undergraduate education shall receive the award.

Black Canadian citizens or permanent residents entering a full-time graduate program offered by the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Not tenable with other scholarships. Tenable with travel grants or financial need awards, as applicable.
