The Barrett Family Scholarships in Sustainable Food Engineering were established by a generous gift from The Barrett Family Foundation to train the next generation of leaders and skilled researchers in sustainable food engineering. The Foundation was founded in 1986 by Bob and Francine Barrett and has grown to support programs in education, the environment, humanitarian causes, health, and the arts. Apply by June 1st to the School of Engineering Awards Committee soe.gradawards@uoguelph.ca with a research proposal outline (2 pages maximum), 2 letters of reference, and a CV. Students must identify research interests in Sustainable Food Engineering. This may include improving packaging, productivity and quality, increasing processing efficiencies, prolonging shelf life, reducing waste, or developing greener technologies. Selection will be based on the strongest research potential and outstanding academic achievement. Students must have applied for admission to a doctoral program in the School of Engineering for the Summer semester or the upcoming Fall or Winter semesters. Scholarship funds to be awarded are in addition to (i.e. as a “top-up”) the regular graduate stipend. Recipients traveling to support their research should send details of their travel to the Engineering Graduate Scholarships inbox at soe.gradawards@uoguelph.ca prior to travel. Submit a budget that includes a description of the travel: timing of travel, location, goals, and anticipated outcomes. Recipients must adhere to the University of Guelph’s Safe Travel Policy.

Students entering a full-time doctoral program in the School of Engineering in the summer semester or the upcoming fall or winter semesters with a minimum 80% admission average whose research is related to sustainable food engineering.
