This scholarship honours the memory of Dr. David Holmberg and celebrates his career spanning from 1986 to 2008, in the OVC Department of Clinical Studies. For many years, he served as head of small animal surgery, specializing in cardiovascular surgery and neurosurgery. An enthusiastic and engaging teacher, he helped develop the CVMA’s Humane Award winning DASIE (Dog Abdominal Surrogate for Instructional Exercises), a non-animal model for teaching surgery to student veterinarians.To apply, submit research project to the Office of the Associate Dean, Students, OVC, in the application process for all graduate awards in January of each year. Selection is based on the relevance of the candidate’s research in the fields of cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, or surgical innovation as included in the award application; as well as academic performance as demonstrated by the program average from their previous program.

Full-time students registered in semester 1 to 3 of a graduate program offered by the Department of Clinical Studies and pursuing research in any one of the following fields: a) Cardiovascular surgery; b) Neurosurgery; or c) Innovations in surgical procedures pertaining to simulation and training. Preference for students with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
