Apply during the call for convocation awards to the Office of the Associate Dean, Students and Academic, Ontario Veterinary College with a letter (max 1 page) detailing the student’s volunteer experience and hours related to CHPP and/or other community access to care initiatives, outside of scheduled course activities for academic credit. The letter should also describe how these experiences have supported the student’s learning objectives and shaped their understanding of access to veterinary care initiatives for under-resourced and made-vulnerable communities. Selection will be based on volunteer hours related to CHPP and other community access to care initiatives (such as Indigenous or urban community health clinics, animal shelters, spay/neuter programs, or similar programs) and the written reflection that best demonstrates how these experiences have supported the student’s learning objectives and shaped their understanding of access to veterinary care initiatives for under-resourced and made-vulnerable communities. In the case of equally qualified candidates, selection will be based on the student’s grade in the Community Access to Care project in their Phase 3 VETM* 4530 Health Management III Shelter and Community Medicine module.
Students who have completed Phase 4 of the DVM program at the Ontario Veterinary College and the Phase 3 VETM*4530 Health Management III Shelter and Community Medicine module, with demonstrated involvement with the Kim and Stu Lang Community Healthcare Partnership Program (CHPP) and/or other community access to care initiatives outside of course requirements. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated volunteer involvement with CHPP and/or other community access to care initiatives across all four Phases of the DVM program.
