The Snape Prize for surgical excellence commemorates and celebrates the life of Snape, a beloved basset hound and family member (2012-2025). Through the wizardry of veterinary surgeons and clinicians, Snape survived two life threatening events (a ruptured spleen and later a herniated spinal disk) to survive thirteen lucky years. This prize supports students who excelled in small animal surgery during Phase 4 of their DVM program. Selection will be based on the weighted average of those Phase 4 clinical rotations that directly count toward the small animal surgery core requirement (Small Animal Surgery and Small Animal Community Health rotation if applicable). In the case of equally qualified candidates, selection will be based on the highest grade in VETM*4470 Medicine and Surgery of the Dog and Cat.

Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons of Canada who have completed Phase 4 of the DVM program in the VETM*4610 Small Animal Stream.
