This initiative aims to foster and strengthen relationships between U of G and local First Nations and support the educational pursuits of First Nations students. Apply by August 1 by submitting the Local First Nations Award application form. Applicants will be asked to provide a declaration and authorization that includes “I authorize the University of Guelph to confirm my membership with my First Nations community for distribution of the Local First Nations Award.” Students can receive this award for one program at each academic level: associate diploma, undergraduate, graduate (masters and doctoral). If a recipient withdraws from any or all courses after the award has been credited to their student account, it cannot be refunded to the student. If a recipient withdraws or drops courses after receiving the award, the University will adjust the award based on the student’s new enrollment status. Students are eligible to have the award reinstated upon their return, provided they continue to meet the eligibility requirements. If the student returns after more than one academic year, they should notify Student Financial Services at awards@uoguelph.ca and awarding will be subject to availability of funds. If recipients take longer than years to completion plus one year to complete their studies, unless they are registered Student Accessibility Services, award renewal will be subject to the availability of funds.
