This four-year award for a DVM student is established by Walker Wood Foundation in honour of its founders’ passion for education and animals. The award aims to create financial accessibility to veterinary studies and reward extracurricular merit and leadership. Apply by October 7 with a completed Financial Need Assessment Form (N.A.F.) to Student Financial Services. Send a current resume and letter of 1-2 pages, detailing your involvement in University and/or Community extracurricular activities, volunteer and/or work experience, ensuring to emphasize any leadership positions and the impact of your involvement to the OVC Dean’s office during the fall call for award applications. Applicants must also include a statement providing consent, if selected for this award, to share their name, profile, and brief annual updates with the donor. Selection will be based on demonstrated leadership and impact. In the event of two equally qualified applicants, the student with greater financial need will be chosen. The award will be renewed each year provided recipients remain registered as a full-time student and their academic standing remains “eligible to continue”. If the current recipient does not meet the renewal criteria, an alternate candidate will be selected at the same phase completion as the recipient that has been determined not to have met renewal criteria and will be eligible for the applicable remaining renewal payments. Once a student’s eligibility has been lost, they are no longer eligible for renewals. The recipient of this award must consent to share their name, profile, and brief annual updates with the donors. This award is not tenable with other awards exceeding $5,000.
Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons of Canada registered in Phase 1 of the DVM program who have demonstrated financial need and who have demonstrated exceptional leadership or community engagement through extracurricular activities, work, and/or volunteerism during their undergraduate studies.
