Established in 2025, the Banjo Fund DVM Scholarship commemorates and celebrates the life of Banjo, a beloved Basset hound, family member, and spirit guide (2012-2024). We want to continue Banjo’s kindness and generosity through this award to help future veterinarians deliver the best medical care to our special friends. Apply by October 7 to Student Financial Services with a completed Financial Need Assessment Form (N.A.F.), and during the fall call for applications from the OVC Dean’s office, submit a two-page statement detailing the number of hours and types of volunteer and/or work experience in a Northern Ontario veterinary practice, and how these experiences developed their understanding of the delivery of veterinary care in Northern Ontario. Additionally, submit a statement from a supervisor at the clinic where the experience was gained, verifying the student's work or volunteer position. Selection will be based on the greatest number of hours of combined volunteer and/or work experience related to Northern Ontario veterinary care, and how this has developed their understanding of the delivery of veterinary care in Northern Ontario. In the event of equally qualified candidates the student with the highest DVM Program application admission average will be selected.

Students registered in Phase 1 of the DVM program who were admitted through the Northern Ontario Undergraduate Cohort who have demonstrated financial need, and who have volunteer and/or work experience in a Northern Ontario Veterinary practice.
