Since 2001, United Steelworkers Local 4120 has represented the interests of technical and administrative staff at the University of Guelph, showing that worker strength lies in unity and collaboration. In the workplace and in public life, the United Steelworkers take up the mantle of the labour movement in promoting dignity, safety, and social and economic justice for all. Apply by May 15 to the CSAHS Awards Committee at csahs.awards@uoguelph.ca with a letter outlining your research, and, if applicable, a statement confirming your ties to USW 4120 or predecessor union UGSA, either as a current/retired member or dependent. Indigenous students are required to confirm their First Nations, Inuit or Métis identity by completing the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process for Students. Selection will be based on research potential. Students can only hold this scholarship once.
Students registered full-time in any program offered by College of Social and Applied Human Sciences who are conducting social justice research including but not limited to areas such as racial inequality, gender discrimination, 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, economic disparity, educational access, environmental justice, healthcare disparities, immigrant rights, and indigenous sovereignty. Preference will be given in the following order 1) to Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) students, 2) students with ties to USW 4120 or its’ predecessor union UGSA, either as a current/retired member or dependent.
