This grant has been created in memory of Jean Ewan, who loved Scottish history, and who spent some of her early career in Canada before welcoming international students to Scotland as a member of staff at Edinburgh University. The grant helps Scottish Studies graduate students who are studying medieval and early modern Scottish history travel to Scotland for archival research. Apply by March 1 to the Chair of Scottish Studies including a description of the travel, a research statement, and an itemized proposed budget detailing travel costs. Selection will be based on the quality of the proposal as it relates to pre-1707 Scotland and a review of the proposed travel budget as outlined in the application.

Students registered part-time or full-time in any Masters or Doctoral program offered by the College of Arts who are pursuing travel to Scotland for the purposes of pre-1707 Scottish-related research. Preference will be given to students in the following order: 1) Students registered in a doctoral program paying the international tuition and fee rates. 2) Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons of Canada registered in a doctoral program. 3) Students registered in a masters program paying the international tuition and fee rates. 4) Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons of Canada registered in a masters program.
