The Research Services Office has developed a new online course, called IEDI for Researchers, to help researchers strengthen their ability to integrate the principles of indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion in their research. The self-directed learning resources in the course can be reviewed in as little as 1 to 2 hours, depending on the extent of prior knowledge of IEDI principles and concepts.

The course is intended to help researchers create IEDI Action Plans that identify and track strategic IEDI actions over time. The course can be freely accessed by all students, staff, and faculty and is focused on building capacity for the identification and implementation of actions aligned with individual and team IEDI commitments.

The resource addresses two aspects of IEDI in research:

Part 1 - IEDI in Research Team Management explores a set of 5 Action Areas with detailed action tips and reflection exercises.

Part 2 - IEDI in the Research Process explores the key concepts of sex, gender, diversity, and indigenization, and reviews each step of the research process, from the development of research priorities to the dissemination of research.

This training not only supports researchers in contributing to a culture of inclusion at the University of Guelph, but also prepares researchers to confidently complete the IEDI components of their grant funding applications. The Tri-Agencies (NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR) often request applicants to name the specific actions they will take to integrate IEDI principles into the proposed research.

Upon completion of the course, a digital badge and certificate will be awarded. Researchers are encouraged to return to the course as often as needed to consult additional references, action tips, and case studies.

To access the course directly, visit CourseLink.

For more information, or to provide feedback on the course, please contact Joanne Garcia-Moores at jmoores@uoguelph.ca.
