University of Guelph’s Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) received a donation from the Ontario Bean Growers (OBG) to improve the production of dry beans like pinto, navy and kidney beans.
This donation, along with contributions from an anonymous donor, totals $2 million and will help support the establishment of the OBG Assistant Professorship in Weed Sciences at U of G’s Ridgetown Campus.
U of G has also confirmed Dry Bean Agronomy and Pest Management faculty position at the Ridgetown Campus will be renewed. Together, these faculty positions ensure that U of G remains a leader in research on dry bean agronomy and weed management.
These new professorships fill the positions left vacant by the retirement of Dr. Peter Sikkema and Chris Gillard, who are set to retire later in 2024.
