A University of Guelph study led by Dr. Jasmin Lalonde’s lab provides strong evidence that bipolar disorder has neurodevelopmental origins. Researchers compared stem cell-derived neural progenitor cells from individuals with and without bipolar disorder, finding significant genetic differences. They also observed that bipolar cells replicated more slowly, moved more, and had longer connections, suggesting altered brain development processes.
