Exchange Partners | Study Abroad

Welcome! This page includes information for both new and current exchange partners. Whether you're interested in setting up an exchange agreement with the University of Guelph or you’re ready to nominate students for an upcoming term, you’ll find the key steps and timelines here. We’re glad you’re connecting with us and look forward to working together to support students’ international experiences.

Current Exchange Partners

Nominate your students to the University of Guelph

Please nominate your students using the University of Guelph Online Nomination Form. We will email the form to our partners in advance of each cycle, but you are welcome to request it at any time by emailing us at goabroad@uoguelph.ca

The Nomination Deadline for students in all semesters is March 20th. Semesters include:

  • Fall Semester (September–December)
  • Winter Semester (January–April)
  • Academic Year (September–April)

Winter Flexibility
We will continue to accept Winter nominations and applications on a rolling basis until August 20th. However, we strongly encourage earlier nominations because course registration for both Fall and Winter opens in June and courses fill quickly. Late applicants may have limited course options.

After receiving the nominations, we will e-mail the students with instructions about how to access our online application. If you have any questions about the exchange application process, please contact our Study Abroad Advisors.

Acceptance Packages

Acceptance packages will be emailed to students approximately one month after the application deadline. Packages include details on:

  • On-campus housing
  • Student fees
  • Orientation and arrival support
  • Other preparation steps

Acceptance letters are sent electronically only; scanned copies are sufficient for Canadian visa applications.

Course Planning

Students will be asked to upload a Course Selection Form in their online application. We recommend students begin reviewing courses early. Please refer students to our Exchange Course Selection Guides for detailed information.

Exchange Balances & Renewing Exchange Agreements

To negotiate the numbers of incoming and outgoing students for an existing exchange agreement, or to start the renewal process for a a soon-to-be-expired agreement, please contact the Study Abroad Manager, Allison Broadbent, at abroadbe@uoguelph.ca.

Becoming an Exchange Partner

Are you interested in developing a new exchange agreement with the University of Guelph? We are looking for partners whose academic programs closely match those at the University of Guelph. For a full listing of Guelph's academic programs please visit our Undergraduate and Graduate Course Calendars.

Here are some of the things we look for in new student exchange partners:

  • Internationally recognized and accredited institutions at the University level with academic programs which align well with the University of Guelph Programs
  • Courses at the senior undergraduate (3rd and 4th year) or graduate level which are taught in English
  • Partners who are not located in a region covered by a Global Affairs Canadian travel warning
  • Partner institutions with a reciprocal interest in exchange such that it may be reasonable to assume that equal numbers of students will be exchanged in each direction
  • Partners must be able to offer an official transcript of the student's academic performance in perpetuity  (i.e. students should be able to obtain a transcript of their exchange courses several years after their time at the host University is completed)

If you are interested in starting an exchange with the University of Guelph, please contact, Study Abroad Manager, Allison Broadbent, at abroadbe@uoguelph.ca.
