Chemistry PhD Student Receives Best Poster Award at International Society of Electrochemistry Annual Meeting
The 76th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) took place in Mainz, Germany from September 7–12, 2025, under the theme “Electrochemistry: From Basic Insights to Sustainable Technologies.” Chemistry PhD student Negar Sabouhabian, supervised by Dr. Jacek Lipkowski and Dr. Aicheng Chen, received the Best Poster Award for her research on Electrochemical and Spectroscopic Insights into CO₂ Reduction to Formate/Formic Acid on Bimetallic Bi-based Catalysts.
Rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels are a major driver of climate change. Negar’s research develops low-cost bimetallic bismuth-based catalysts to convert CO2 into valuable products. Using in situ FTIR spectroscopy, her team showed the reaction proceeds through COO- intermediates, achieving an 85% efficiency for producing formate and CO.
Congratulations to Negar on this achievement!
