PhD Candidate Wins Gilead Early Career Award for Excellence in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
PhD candidate Genievieve Borg is the 2026 recipient of the Gilead Early Career Award for Excellence in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, presented by the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC). This award acknowledges an early career chemist as a mark of distinction and recognition for excellence in their work advancing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. Genievieve is a leader in the Indigenization of STEM, combining chemistry, education and Indigenous advocacy to create learning environments that honour both scientific and cultural knowledge.
Her work challenges traditional ideas of who belongs in science and how knowledge is shared. Through research, community collaboration and creative expression, she has brought Indigenous perspectives to the forefront of STEM. Genievieve’s growing impact is shaping a future where Indigenous students are empowered to lead.
