Volunteer Opportunity - Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants

CBS Volunteer Opportunity

Joe Grabowski is a science teacher, a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and a University of Guelph Alumni.  Joe started the non-profit Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants (EBTSOYP), with a primary goal of bringing science, exploration, adventure and conservation into classrooms across North America through guest speakers and virtual field trips. Since launching in September of 2015, EBTSOYP has hosted over 2,000 live events connecting hundreds of thousand of students with scientists and explorers from over 80 countries.

"What we do is 100% free for classrooms and always will be." - Joe

Joe is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in gaining experience in science communication through hosting live events with scientists, explorers, adventurers and conservationists each month, using social media to promote and share events and help edit short videos for classrooms and social media.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Hositng live virtual events for classrooms

  • Working with speakers and educators in advance of events

  • Some social media posting on our channels

  • Some video editting and graphics creating

The amount you’ll host each month is flexible, whether it’s one or several, whatever your schedule allows. Some months EBTSOYP hosts full day or week events, allowing for extra opportunities to take part. As the school year goes on and based on the volunteer's interests, there may be more events running each month. You’ll have the opportunity to meet some pretty awesome scientists and explorers from around the world as well as hangout with students all over North America.

Tech requirements are pretty simple, a laptop with a webcam and a Google account as well as the Google Chrome web browser should be all you need. A mic headset can be useful as well.

Training will be provided.
