PhD Candidate Wins First Place in 3-Minute Thesis Competition at Responsible AI Conference

Sonal Allana, a PhD candidate in Computer Science, won first place in the 3-minute thesis competition at the Responsible AI Track of the Canadian AI Conference, held in Calgary. The competition encourages ethical and responsible AI development by promoting fairness, transparency and accountability in the field.

Competing against graduate students from top universities across Canada, Allana impressed judges with her presentation on AI privacy research. The award highlights the impact of her work in the Data Management and Privacy Governance Lab, supervised by Dr. Rozita Dara.

"This award has motivated me to continue working hard despite setbacks," said Allana. "I am grateful to the Responsible AI program committee for selecting my PhD research for the award."
