U of G Grad Students Honoured with Prestigious Funding for 2025

The University of Guelph is celebrating the achievements of 19 graduate students in its engineering, computing, mathematical and physical sciences graduate programs. These students have been awarded competitive federal and provincial scholarships, including the prestigious NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral, NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships-Doctoral, Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS), and Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarships in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST). 

“These awards are a testament to the exceptional quality of research being conducted by our graduate students,” says Dr. Monica Cojocaru, associate dean, research and graduate studies of U of G’s computational, mathematical and physical sciences. 

“Our students are advancing important research from clean technologies to improving data security and human health, and this recognition reinforces the national and provincial impact of their work,” adds Dr. Ibrahim Deiab, engineering associate dean, research and graduate studies. “We’re incredibly proud of their achievements and excited to see where their research will lead.” 

Six CEPS students received tri-council NSERC doctoral awards of $120,000 over three years for Canada Graduate Research Scholarships (Doctoral) or Postgraduate Scholarships (Doctoral). Megan Black, PhD Chemistry student, will receive the prestigious CGS-D scholarship. PGS-D recipients include:

  • Samantha Buck, Physics 
  • Ryan Curry, Physics 
  • Rebecca Goodrum, Engineering 
  • Izabela Savić, Computer Science  
  • Enshen Zhu, Engineering 

An additional 13 students earned either Ontario Graduate Scholarship or Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) awards valued at up to $15,000 over three consecutive terms. The OGS recipients include: 

  • Sam Belleffeuille, M.A.Sc. Engineering 
  • Darren Chow, PhD Chemistry 
  • Kara Cook, M.A.Sc. Engineering 
  • Yusra Hasan, PhD Engineering 
  • Zinah Ghulam, M.A.Sc. Engineering + AI 
  • Rafeh Rehan, M.Sc. Physics 
  • Bharat Regmi, PhD Engineering 
  • Gisela Strohle, PhD Engineering 

The QEII-GSST recipients include: 

  • Noah Boettger, M.Sc. Mathematics 
  • Cameron McGuire, PhD Physics 
  • Michelle Ragany, PhD CSCI 
  • Keenan Regan, PhD Chemistry + Toxicology 

These awards recognize academic excellence, leadership, and research potential, and help position CEPS graduate students for successful research careers. The College remains committed to supporting graduate researchers who represent the future of our innovation and discovery.
