Derek O’Flaherty Receives University Research Excellence Award

The Department of Chemistry is proud to congratulate Dr. Derek O’Flaherty on receiving a University Research Excellence Award, a distinction that recognizes recently tenured faculty members whose research has achieved international impact and demonstrates strong potential for continued national and international recognition.

Since joining the University of Guelph in 2020, Dr. O’Flaherty has established an innovative research program at the interface of chemistry and biology, with a focus on nucleic acid chemistry, biotechnology, and origins-of-life research. His work has resulted in a strong record of scholarly contributions, research funding success, and the training of highly qualified students and researchers.
