Chemistry Students Advance Research This Summer
This summer, undergraduate researchers in the Department of Chemistry gained hands-on experience tackling important scientific challenges through Undergraduate Research Assistantships (URA), Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA), and research assistant positions.
Working alongside faculty and graduate students, undergraduate students contributed to projects spanning environmental chemistry, clean energy, medicinal chemistry, nuclear technology and carbohydrate chemistry. Research topics included the analysis of PFAS contaminants in water, carbon capture materials, graphene-based nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications, the design of potential cancer therapeutics, ammonia oxidation electrocatalysts, and innovative approaches to genome replication and heavy metal detection.
The Department congratulates this year's summer researchers: Cheuk Ying (Alicia) Wong (Gauthier Lab), Dara Grebennikova (O'Flaherty Lab), Mahreen Chowdhury (O'Flaherty Lab), Connor Kremer (Murphy Lab), Jahsiah Anthony (L. Chen Lab), Katrina Suichies (Huang Lab), Luke Krushelnycky (Huang Lab), Hussain Jafri (A. Chen Lab), Nolan Eakins (Preuss Lab), Lucie Couzon (Auzanneau Lab), and Evan Williamson (Ghandi Lab). Their contributions highlight the breadth of research opportunities available to undergraduate students and the department's commitment to providing meaningful research experiences.
