Call for Letters of Intent – Research
Description
The Beef Cattle Research Council invites letters of intent (LOIs) for research projects. The purpose of this call is to achieve specific objectives in the Canadian Beef Research and Technology Transfer Strategy and the National Beef Strategy.
- Relevance to the identified research priorities stated in ‘BCRC Call for Letters of Intent’,
- Scientific merit,
- A clear communication and technology transfer plan to facilitate the uptake of research results by the beef industry.
- Increase producer profitability by increasing productivity or decreasing costs of production and risks.
- Develop, enhance and encourage adoption of beneficial practices and innovations that maximize the environmental benefits industry provides and continue to reduce our environmental footprint, while supporting industry competitiveness.
- Support continuous improvements in Canadian beef demand through advancements in the quality and safety of Canadian beef.
- Generate science to inform decision makers, policy and best management practices and to support consumer confidence and public trust.
- Develop, enhance and encourage adoption of leading-edge technologies that support industry competitiveness, automation and sustainability.
- Ensure the maintenance and rejuvenation of critical research capacity and infrastructure that facilitate proactive inquiry and innovation to support industry advancement.
Eligibility
Any individual or organization (academic institution, private industry, government or not-for-profit/non-government organization) with the ability and/or a track record of success in carrying out research projects in areas relevant to the Canadian beef industry is eligible to apply.

Project Duration
Preference will be given to projects that are up to three years in duration; if the need for a longer timeframe can be clearly demonstrated, four or five-year projects may be considered. Projects will commence no earlier than April 1, 2023, with flexibility available after April 1st to ensure start dates work for with the project workplan. An approved project cannot start until confirmation of matching funds has been received.

Please note that research activities carried out in the context of COVID-19 need to adhere to the University of Guelph COVID-19 research principles, policies, guidelines and processes as they may be updated from time to time and communicated on the Office of Research web-page.

Information For Co-applicants
If you need to meet a deadline set by the lead institution for this opportunity, please ensure that you provide the Office of Research with at least five days in advance of the lead institution’s deadline to review the application, or your proposed component of the project. Please be in touch with the Office of Research (contact information below) ahead of the deadline if it looks like it will be difficult for you to submit all the required documentation on time (i.e. budget, proposal, OR-5 Form).
