Community at U of G

There are many ways for graduate students to build connections and enrich their experience at U of G. From engaging with campus communities to exploring leadership and professional development opportunities, we're here to help you find support and spaces to make the most of your graduate student journey.

GryphLife for Grad Students

GryphLife is your online portal to student events, workshops, communities, organizations and more. You’ll find events for students at all academic levels posted here year-round. To view opportunities specifically for graduate students, go to the "Events" section and select “Graduate Student Oriented” from the "Categories" drop-down.

Graduate Student Association

The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) is the student-run student union for graduate students, offering opportunities to get involved at U of G through executive roles, events, and gatherings. It also provides key services, including the grad student health and dental plan and the city bus pass. Both full- and part-time graduate students are members of the GSA.

Indigenous Student Centre

The Indigenous Student Centre provides support and programming for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis graduate students, and the Indigenous Student Advisor is available to provide guidance and support throughout your learning journey at U of G. Current students can login to the Student Experience Intranet to view Graduate Student Supports for incoming Indigenous students.

Multi-Faith Centre

The Multi-Faith Centre at U of G supports the well-being of all students by recognizing the role of faith and spirituality and by fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus through opportunities for multi-faith encounter and dialogue. Graduate students can take part in interfaith events, drop by for community and reflection, or connect with members of the Multi-Faith Resource Team. We're here to help you find belonging and support during your graduate journey.

OUTline

OUTline is the University of Guelph’s resource and support service for LGBTQ2IA+ students, specializing in questions and information relating to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. We strive to make our programs, services, and spaces safer and more inclusive for everyone. No matter your background, beliefs, journey, or identity, you are welcome here. Graduate students can use the OUTline online chat and attend all OUTline events.

Black & Racialized Graduate Student Support Network (BRGSSN)

The BRGSSN, facilitated by Cultural Diversity Services, provides support and resources to Black and racialized graduate and post-graduate students through facilitated discussions and events that explore their unique challenges, joys, and achievements in graduate studies and beyond.

As a graduate student at the University of Guelph, you have the opportunity to enrich your academic journey through international experiences. Whether through research placements, field work, conferences, or formal study abroad programs, adding a global perspective can strengthen your studies and professional development.

Graduate students at the University of Guelph can enhance their experience through opportunities to work, volunteer, and get involved on campus and in the community. These experiences can help you build skills, connect with others, and make the most of your time as a Gryphon.

Job Opportunities and Career Services

Some students work while studying at U of G. On- and off-campus job opportunities are available year-round through the Experiential Learning Hub.

Our team of Career Advisors combine program-specific insights with best practices in career education. Whether you're exploring paths that align with your interests and education, or need some assistance in the job search, support is available. Career advising services, our job board, and events/workshop calendar can all be found at ExperienceGuelph.ca. New student gain access to Experience Guelph around the first week of starting your program.

Work Study Program

Work Study is a part-time job program to assist students with demonstrated financial need meet their educational costs by working part-time during their registered term. This program is available for eligible students after the approval of a Financial Need Assessment form.

To determine if you are eligible for the Work Study program, look at the Student Financial Services’ information on the Work Study program. Financial Needs Assessment Forms are now available for the fall and winter semesters. Submit the form to Student Financial Services to apply for an in-course bursary or for approval for the Work Study Program

Peer Helper Program

The Peer Helper Program is a network of student volunteers who support the U of G community through academics, wellness, mentorship, and more. As a Peer Helper, you’ll gain hands-on experience, build transferable skills, and be mentored by staff while making a meaningful difference for your peers—a valuable opportunity for graduate students looking to grow personally and professionally.

Student Volunteer Connections

Volunteering is a big part of the U of G student experience. Gryphons volunteer for many reasons: to connect and engage with their community, help others, develop a social network, explore career options, gain valuable experience for their resume, or build job-related skills.

As a U of G graduate student, you have access to awards that recognize your academic and professional achievements, along with funding opportunities that can help support your studies and personal development. Departments across the University play an active role in supporting graduate students by offering a variety of programs, resources, and recognition opportunities. Student Experience Awards

Student Experience is proud to honour the achievements and contributions of campus leaders who have made a lasting difference in the lives of our students and in the strong relationship that is fostered between the campus and greater community. These recognition awards are presented annually to deserving undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty and community members.

Student Life Enhancement Funding

The Student Life Enhancement Fund (SLEF) and the UGAA Student Experience Fund provide up to $100,000 annually to support non-academic initiatives that enrich the student experience at U of G, including projects, events, and engagement opportunities. Recognized student organizations and clubs, registered students, and University departments are eligible to apply.

Scholarships and Awards

Graduate students at U of G can access scholarships and awards that support their academic journey and professional growth. These opportunities include internal, government-funded, and external awards that provide assistance for research, travel, program completion, and postdoctoral work.
