The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, also known informally as White Ribbon Day, is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6, the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, in which fourteen women were murdered and ten others injured in the name of "fighting feminism". Each December 6th, The University of Guelph School of Engineering commemorates this event through the themes of Remember, Reflect, Respond.

Dr. Natalia Cediel Becerra, Associate Professor and Researcher at Universidad de La Salle (Colombia), will speak on mapping One Health (OH) initiatives and stakeholders in Latin America. It is a key first step in the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) One Health policy. International agencies such as PAHO and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have strengthened the capacity of many countries around the prevention of zoonoses for more than 6 decades, creating a good baseline for OH implementation.

Based on the success of Go PHYS Girl earlier this year, Guelph Physics, Creative Encounters and Women in Engineering are planning another Go PHYS Girl event on November 30. This event will be designed for all girl and non-binary students in Grades 7 to 10 to spend a half-day on campus to learn all about the incredible world of Physics and future career opportunities. Join us at the CANSSI Ontario STatistics Seminars (CAST) with Dr. Lisa Strug for an informative talk about Genome Data Science: Towards understanding GWAS loci.  Dr. Strug is a Professor in the Departments of Statistical Sciences, Computer Science and cross-appointed in Biostatistics at the University of Toronto and is a Senior Scientist in the Program in Genetics and Genome Biology at the Hospital for Sick Children.

The One Health seminar series showcases the depth and breadth of One Health research at the University of Guelph, and beyond! These 50-minute talks feature a 30-minute presentation by a One Health practitioner, followed by an audience Q&A. Everyone is welcome, particularly graduate students and faculty. Marsha Hinds Myrie, Educational Developer, Anti-Oppressive and Inclusive Pedagogies, Office of Teaching and Learning, University ofGuelph, will be speaking on breaking knowledge hegemony through transdisciplinary research practice.
