Learning and Compensatory Strategies Inventory Checklist

The Learning and Compensatory Strategies Inventory Checklist was developed to assist students with learning disabilities develop and use effective strategies.  The inventory will help you to:

  • recognize strategies that you are using effectively already
  • evaluate where you need to develop new strategies
  • generate an action plan to help you become a more effective learner 

Strategies examined

The inventory examines strategies for:

  • Study
  • Concentration
  • Memory
  • Learning from textbooks
  • Learning from lectures
  • Essays and assignments
  • Writing tests and exams
  • Organization and time management
  • Self-advocacy
  • Disability specific strategies

How to use the inventory

This inventory includes instructions and:

  • a Checklist of 90 learning and compensatory strategies,
  • a Summary Sheet to calculate and graph your results, and
  • details on how to develop an Action Plan.

You are encouraged to work closely with your SAS Advisor and to actively use the strategies in your course work.
