Advanced Analysis Centre
The commissioning of the Advanced Analysis Centre (AAC) represents a 15 year vision of the University to provide modern, centralized and highly serviced space for large-scale advanced analysis facilities including state-of-the-art Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Mass Spectroscopy, Electron Microscopy, Confocal Microscopy and Genetic Sequencing instrumentation. The AAC provides an unequalled range of capabilities for research and advanced education at the interface of the physical and biological sciences.
Biodiversity Institute of Ontario
The Biodiversity Institute of Ontario at the University of Guelph is an institute dedicated to the study of biodiversity at multiple levels of biological organization, with particular emphasis placed upon the study of biodiversity at the species level. BIO is the birthplace of the field of DNA barcoding, whereby short, standardized gene sequences are used to accelerate species discovery and identification. There are four units with complementary mandates that are housed within BIO and interact to further knowledge of biodiversity.
Digital Haptic Lab
The Digital Haptic Lab (DHL) is a design and prototyping facility at the University of Guelph shared between the College of Arts and the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences. Led by the Principle Investigator, Associate Professor Christian Giroux of the School of Fine Art and Music, the DHL provides cutting edge design and production tools to artists and researchers seeking ways to realize complex objects. Managed by John Phillips, Ph.D Eng, the lab facilitates cross-disciplinary collaboration and provides a platform for experimentation and problem-solving of all kinds.
Laboratory Services
The University of Guelph, Laboratory Services is a Canadian testing facility that delivers solutions to a breadth of clients throughout industry, government and academic sectors. With over 150 professionals on staff and direct access to University of Guelph researchers, we offer technology and expertise that upholds the highest standard of testing.
Laboratory Services has two operational units, housed in three locations, that work together to provide comprehensive services to our broad array of clients. Our laboratories are equipped and staffed to address the existing and emerging issues in each field.
- The Animal Health Laboratory (AHL) specializes in determining the health of livestock, poultry, horses and pets through a wide array of tests, and in turn provides disease surveillance data for the province of Ontario.
- The Agriculture and Food Laboratory (AFL) offers a variety of services ranging from: microbiological testing, agrochemical testing, DNA methods, identification of food contaminants, allergen testing, method development and tests for residues from drugs, pesticides, plant, soil and water.
