Join the Green Team

The "Green Team" is a brand new, student-led volunteer-based initative. Developed through the Sustainability Office, this team is comprised of undergraduate and graduate University of Guelph students and guided by the Green Team Peer Helper. The Green Team is focused on promoting waste reduction and resource recovery programs.

The Green Team has three major focuses:

1) Creating content to post on our social media platforms for "Waste Reduction Wednesdays".

2) Developing and leading the "Sustainable Event Planner Certification Training". This will take place on the last week of February 2020.

3) Organizing and running monthly outreach days across campus. These outreach days will be used to promote waste reduction education and initatives on campus.

4) Attend designated events to promote proper sorting of items (compost, recycling, landfill) and working with event organizers to reduce waste before events take place.

How the "Green Team" Works

The Green Team has gone digital. This is in efforts to make this program as effective for everyone involved! Instead of weekly meetings, there is weekly detailed emails sent out with upcoming volunteer opportunities on-and-off campus. All opportunities shared on these list-servs are focused around waste reduction and improving sustainability.

To still keep a social element to this program, we will be running monthly social activities that involve waste reduction education.
