Innovative weed management strategies for control of emerging weed biotypes in dry beans - Acceptable herbicide residues in beans for export markets.

Lead Applicant: Peter Sikkema

Research Priority: Plant Health & Protection

Program Type: Tier 1

Funding Cycle: 2021/2022

Research Centre: Ontario Crops Research Centre - Huron, Ridgetown & Cedar Springs

Research Summary: Multiple-herbicide-resistant (MHR) Canada fleabane and waterhemp have been confirmed in 30 and 13 Ontario counties, respectively, posing a great risk to dry bean yield. New research must be initiated in beans to address this potential industry altering challenge, but it must also be considered that approximately 85% of Ontario beans are exported, therefore herbicide residues must meet the stringent demands of the importing countries.
