Research Summary: Anthracnose is a major fungal disease threatening dry bean yields and grower profits in Ontario. Recent outbreaks have raised concerns about the possible emergence of a new race or decreased resistance to the common race 73. This proposal seeks to develop advanced phenomics and genomics markers to rapidly identify anthracnose-resistant dry bean genotypes. Key objectives include determining if a new race has emerged, using high-throughput tools such as drone imaging for early screening, and creating molecular markers to improve resistance. This research will strengthen dry bean productivity and profitability, supporting Ontario’s leading role in the industry.
