Research Summary: A calving/dystocia model kit will be created for veterinary practitioners, veterinary technicians, and allied industries to use with veterinary oversight during producer meetings to teach beef and/or dairy producers proper methods of intervening and assisting calving dystocia. A compact dystocia model simulator and dystocia calf model, along with instructions for use and approaches for typical dystocia presentations. The kit will be managed by the collaborative effort of Dairy at Guelph, Beef at Guelph, and the Saputo Dairy Care program, and loaned to veterinarians or veterinary technicians for use during producer meetings.
