Bridging the knowledge gap: A comparative study of AI vs. human-generated research summaries

Lead Applicant: Ryan Gibson

Research Priority: Strong Rural Communities

Program Type: Knowledge Translation and Transfer – Research

Funding Cycle: 2025

Research Centre: NA

Research Summary: Rural development practitioners need knowledge, data, and evidence to support decision-making and to inform their communities and regions. Too often, rural development practitioners do not have access to this critical information. To address this gap, this knowledge translation and transfer research initiative will examine how effectively research summaries convey knowledge, data, and evidence. This research will create human-generated and artificial intelligence-generated research summaries from rural development research presentations. An online survey will gather and analyze the perspectives of rural development practitioners, government staff, and graduate students to assess the effectiveness and preferences for research summaries. The outcomes of this research initiative will enhance our understanding of knowledge translation and transfer and support rural economies.
