Gas lift pumping technology for moving heavy fluids and mixtures in food systems

Lead Applicant: Wael Ahmed

Research Priority: Innovative Products & Product Improvement Projects

Program Type: Gryphon's LAAIR

Funding Cycle: 2021/2022

Research Centre: Alma Aquaculture Research Station

Research Summary: This gas lift pump is the first gas-driven pump that is able to move heavy fluids and solid-liquid mixtures efficiently. Using 40% less energy to operate and offering a 70-80% savings in the capital investment, this pump can reduce the production costs in many food industries. This project will test the gas lift pump for use in transferring fish/shrimp and cleaning fish tanks at three aquaculture facilities, determining the life cycle of the pump and its performance limits under real industrial conditions.
