Semiochemical management tactics for Colorado potato beetle

Lead Applicant: Rebecca Hallett

Research Priority: Plant Health & Protection

Program Type: Tier 1

Funding Cycle: 2021/2022

Research Centre: Ontario Crops Research Centre - Simcoe

Research Summary: Due to insecticide resistance and stricter insecticide regulations, Colorado potato beetle (CPB) infestations, which cause significant early-season damage to tomato and potato crops, can no longer be effectively managed by commercial insecticides. This project aims to develop non-insecticidal management tools through the use of cannabis or hemp to deter CPBs. The project will provide growers in Ontario with effective tactics to prevent CPB infestation and reduce reliance on insecticides, mitigating the development of insecticide resistance in CPB populations.
